The Ups and Downs

Last Monday the Wasatch got hit with a huge storm. It was a Southwest flow so it was pretty warm and the lower elevations had not been getting the snow they normally do. We woke up early to go get after all the new snow, the road to Little Cottonwood was closed due to avalanche control, so we headed up Big Cottonwood pressing our luck hoping that some lower elevation trees would have received all the new snow.

We skinned up and saw this. None of us had brought our shin guards so we decided to bail.

We ripped skins after a 20 minute skin and headed back to the car in hopes of heading up Little Cottonwood, so we could get up higher to where all the snow was. We drove back down to the valley and Little Cottonwood was still closed, so we grabbed some breakfast and waited. Finally at 1pm the road was opened and due to traffic we didn’t get to the top of the canyon until 2ish. So for a day when we were ready to go skiing at 8am we didn’t really ski until about 3pm.

The snow was worth the wait.

The trees and Noah caked with snow.

It was really deep.

Good things come to those who wait.

Noah wishing it wasn’t getting dark so we could keep playing.
