Logan, UT premiere

I am always up for doing college shows, since I myself never truly went to college, unless you count the 1 day I tried it out and realized I didn’t want to pay to take naps. So we packed up and headed north to Utah State University, the show was at the ORC (Outdoor Recreation Center).

The ORC is a cool little place where students can rent cheap gear, so they can get into the outdoors. The best way to get students to a show is throwing in a meal with their ticket, I think more people were there for the food then the movie. On the menu was sloppy joe’s, cheesy potatoes, and apple cobbler, it tasted better then it looks.

The only thing sweeter then the apple cobbler was this little future telemark skier.

The show ended up being our largest college show to date, we sold out.

We’d like to thank Paul and all the ORC staff for making it such a fun show.

The PW Tour Continues-California/Nevada

Our first stop on this leg was America’s Biggest Little City, Reno.

The owner or Ceol’s Irish Pub is a die hard Telemark skier. Ron has done an amazing job of spreading the word and growing this venue. Last year 60 folks came out and this year we doubled it to over 120.

The place was packed! We showed the flick on 2 large screens at both ends of the bar. They were a little out of sync, but we’ll fix that for next year.

It was one of the most stacked raffle’s that I’ve seen. Thanks to Adam Chamberlain at BD for throwing in a pair of skis. The raffle benefitted the Nevada Wilderness Project.

We drove up to Squaw Valley and crashed at Rob Nachtwey’s. Waking up to a crisp beautiful morning in the Sierra, we went for a run up the resort. It’s good to get out and run in between all the driving, drinking and eating.

Next stop was the Craneway Pavillion in Point Richmond.

This is an events center that Rob Nachtwey is developing/managing. Here’s Rob organizing the bar for the night’s festivities.

The Craneway is a huge “blank canvas” that will host weddings, rave’s, parties and hopefully ski movies.

Jonah relaxes and takes in the view after setting up for the show.

Rob is making the transition from ski bum/athlete to “real” job. I can’t say I condone the move, but it seems like a cool project and a perfect fit for Rob.

Rob plays MC to the group of 90+ that consist of many of his friends and family.

A late night dawned on a gorgeous day in the Bay Area. Our next stop was in the big city.

Rob had to prep the Craneway for a rave that night. Jonah and I were on our own to play tourist for the day.

It was hard to imagine anybody was thinking about winter or skiing with weather like this. The beach was going off!

Dede O’Mara, film star and friend showed up to hang out. She’s been in South America skiing all Summer long. Now, she’s moving to Jackson Hole to ski for the winter.

The movie was held at Sports Basement in Portrero not Presidio. They provided free beer and snacks for the crowd of 80+.

We had a great raffle and raised almost $400 for the Sierra Avalanche Center.

We wrapped up the show and were kidnapped by Dede’s friends who are in a pretty rowdy bike gang.

They took us to a local watering hole where we shared drinks, and talked ski movies. Just as things were getting pretty blurry the tamale lady showed up.

Sorry Dede, this pic is just too good not to post.

Some of the best tamales ever.

We finished off the late night discussing whether it was nobler to be or not to be.

I don’t remember if we came up with an answer or not?

But we had a good time.

Dede was kind enough to put us up for the night. We hit the road for Lake Tahoe the next morning. Sawtooth Ridge Cafe was host to our Tahoe City show.

This was a fun little final stop before heading home. There was a great mixed crowd of 60 or so, who all seemed to enjoy the show.

We raised more money for the Sierra Avalanche Center with thanks to Alpenglow.

After the show we hit the road for home, making it as far as Winnemucca. It’s amazing how fast 4 days can fly by.

Home for a week now, we’re resting up, training for winter and planning the Colorado leg to come.

PW Tour Week 2

We left off last week in Bellingham WA. Since then we’ve banged out 6 more shows.

Seattle was the next stop. The movie played at EVO gear’s shop in the Fremont district. They bought a few kegs for the event and they went quickly with the thirsty crowd. We even had an appearance by one of the top alpine skiers in the world, but we won’t embarrass him online by revealing he’s a closet tele wanabee. There was some talk about getting him a cameo appearance in next years flick.

We added a new stop to the tour, but we might drop Spokane for next year.  Unfortunately only a small group showed up for what we will call a very intimate showing. Everybody won a raffle prize or caught some schwag. Jonah was excited about the show!

Starting in Whitefish, Montana would host the next 3 shows. The Great Northern is always fun and packed. Still a bit like the wild west up there.

Our good friend Ken Wensel put us up in town and rallied 80 of his friends for the show. He wanted to join us on tour, but the per diem was too low.

Next up was Missoula where we teamed up with Big Sky Brewery for the burning dog pray for snow party. This is an outdoor event where we showed the movie on the side of the brewery.

I don’t believe there is scientific evidence that burning stuff like skis or pine dogs will bring snow. It has proven to be a good time though. This was a large fundraiser for the Missoula Avalanche organization.

A crowd of 600+(not counting these 2 guys) looked on as Chris Erickson skis the Wasatch pow on the big screen.

A little diesel fuel goes a long way. I don’t think this would fly in many other states.

Big Sky Brewery sent us on our way with a sweet parting gift. How many cases does it take to constitute bootlegging?

The burning of things and huge outdoor venues continued on to Bozeman. The fairgrounds held the party this time with galande quaffing, 2 bands and The Pact viewing.

With over 1,000 in attendance this was the biggest single crowd to ever view a PW flick.

Thanks to Molly and BJ Brewer for letting us make a mobile home park out of the front yard.

Last stop on this 13 city leg of the tour was the lovely Jackson Hole. Small crowd due to the baseball game, football game, or because Desperate Housewives was on?

The road was starting to take it’s toll, but we were shown the finest hospitality possible and we’ll be back soon.

Jonah and I are now home restocking the schwag and gear. We leave tomorrow for 4 stops in CA/NV. Come out and join us if we are swinging through a town near you. Click here for tour dates and locations.

The Powderwhore Tour, Pacific Northwest

13 shows in 13 nights, Jonah and I embark on the first leg of the 30 city tour.

We hit the road bringing the stoke to the people and towing the schwagon wagon full of gear.

First stop was the Linen Building in Boise.

The crowd of 100+ was fired up about the flick and we raised money for Winter Wildlands.

We fit right in with the other big rigs on the road. Yes, we get many a strange look from people passing us on the freeway.

Driving into the beautiful town of Bend.

The St Francis is always one of the best stops along the way. Fun crowd, great venue and good beer.

150+ came out for some digital winter and to raise funds for Oregon Natural Desert Association. I have no idea what the “Clothing” sign means. Maybe it’s optional when it’s off?

Drove the rig through some snow as we drove the McKenzie pass en route to Eugene.

The Outdoor Program at Oregon University put together a fine show in Eugene. Our youngest crowd of nearly 80 students came out for some hot telemark action. Thanks to Jarl at the Berg Ski Shop for all his help. (I forgot to take any pics)

Life on the road, Jonah gets ready for bed in our luxury accomodations.

For the past 4 years we have shown at the Kennedy School in Portland. This venue is an old Elementary School that was converted into a hotel/bar/restaurant/theater.

It continues to be one of our largest draws and the 200+ crowd is out of hand (in a good way). There must be something in the beer (like beer maybe). A good bit of coin was raised for the local Snowrider Association ( A branch of the Surfrider Association).

We pulled into Hood River just in time to help local Jugglemarker Charlie Cannon with a fence building project.

No need for ladders when you’ve got mad bush balancing skillz!

Hood River showed up 80 strong to support their local ski-lebrity Charlie Cannon. The local nordic center also raised funds to groom their trails this winter.

Charlie and friends showed us a good time afterwards.

Sunday is a tough night to get a crowd out for a ski flick. Tacoma is more about quality than quantity with 12 proud souls showing up to win gear and get stoked for the skiing to come. (no pics) Many thanks to Backpackers Supply for hosting this event in their great little shop.

Heading north to Bellingham, The Pact played to an excited 100+ at the Chuckanut Brewery in a fun little covered outdoor venue.

Tonight is Seattle and then we head to Montana and Jackson Hole. Come out and see the action packed tele flick of the season and help support your local non-profit. The full tour schedule is available here-

Premiere Week in Salt Lake City

Thanks to everybody who came out for the World Premiere of “The Pact” at Brewvies this week. We had 5 shows with over 800 in attendance and raised nearly $3K for the Utah Avalanche Center.

We did run out of seats for 3 of the shows and tapped the house of PBR, but other than that the nights went smoothly.

Some players from the past came out of the woods to check out the flick. Josh Madsen and Todd Stuart praying for peace and snow.

The bashful and lovely Ashley Howell selling PW gear.

And her even sexier hubby, Jonah, pushing product. Sex sells!

Manny the friendly gear mannequin will be joining us again this year. Freshly outfitted with the latest toys from Black Diamond and pants and jacket from Mountain Hardwear, you just need to sign up to win.

We will be working with a non profit at almost all of our 30 city tour stops. The product from our sponsors will be raffled off to benefit the local organizations.

Thanks to Joni for outbidding everybody else for this huge strip of tix. I believe it paid off nicely for her when she won an Avalung pack from BD.

This is me pointing out that the movie will be playing on the large white screen.

The packed house awaiting “The Pact”.

The bouncers making sure nobody sneaks in without a beer. Good job Guy, Craig, Josh and Jay.

It’s always a really fun week and a great start to the tour. We’ll be on the road heading to a ski town near you soon. Come out and join us if you’re in need of a good dose of winter.

Thanks to Darrell Finlayson (MTV Cribs segment) for all the pics.
