Last spring, after crushing the Freeskiing World Championships at Alyeska ski area, a group of the top skiers in the world crammed into an RV and headed to Thompson Pass.
Megan Michelson took her first stab at capturing and editing ski footage.
For those of you die hard PW fans here’s a little insight into why we named our movie “Flakes” and how we decided on the feel of the trailer.
Every year we try to make a better movie then the last one, which has been pretty easy since we didn’t have a clue how to make a movie when we started the company. We have felt like we’ve never done a great job of having a theme throughout one of our movies. So while we were on the road showing “The Pact” we thought we should choose a title before we even start filming and make a movie that has a recurring theme throughout. We decided we liked “Flakes” and thought we could play up the flakiness of these people we ski with, who devote their lives to telemark skiing. We also thought if we fail at showing the flakiness we can always just say we called it flakes because of snow flakes.
When the snow started to fall last winter we reverted back to the days of old where all we want to do is ski. So we didn’t end up capturing too much flakey behavior. What we did manage to capture was by far the most beautiful footage we’ve ever shot. What we thought was going to be a light hearted movie turned into a sort of art flick. Don’t get me wrong the whole movie isn’t that way at all but a few segments are very different. We still have the PW humor that will always make it in our movies.
So when we were putting the trailer together we didn’t want it to be your high energy ski porn trailer and we didn’t want it to be a laugh your ass off flakey trailer. We decided to make it a powerful and moving trailer. A trailer that highlights the beauty of hiking, skiing pow, and getting rowdy. This is truly our best movie yet. Enjoy the Trailer.
